On Friday, a New York judge dismissed former President Donald Trump’s last-ditch plea and ordered him to begin paying a $10,000 daily fine for civil contempt of court. Judge Arthur Engoron declared Trump in contempt earlier this week after the twice-impeached ex-president failed to cooperate with a subpoena for evidence issued by New York State Attorney General Letitia James. For at least a decade, James’ office has been investigating the Trump Organization for allegedly lying about the valuations of its assets on its financial statements. Trump’s family business has been accused of exaggerating the value of its holdings when seeking for bank loans and undervaluing them when calculating taxes. Trump, who has faced little accountability for his business transactions to this day, failed to turn up any of the documents requested by the AG before a March 31 deadline, and failed to document his company’s alleged attempt to look for the data, as required by law.
